The Parker "425" is the opening race in the Best in the Desert Silver State Series. February 3rd would mark our 5th start of this storied race and what a tough race it was. Usually only half of the field finishes. Out of 16 entries in class 7200 only 5 would finish.
Team Orbit started its racing debut in Parker in the 2003 Season. That year we had engine problems. In 2005, we went through two transmissions. In 2004 and 2006, Parker was good to us.
On to 2007, another odd year. The day started well. By the end of the first 140 mile lap, we had a 25 minute lead over our closest competitor. By the end of lap 2, the lead would increase to 45 minutes. All seemed to be going well until the final 10 miles of the race. Right around mile 430, disaster hit. The Team Orbit truck broke its crank in two places. Just like in 2003 you don't celebrate until an off-road truck crosses the finish line. We ended up with a DNF and sixth in class on a day when we were so close yet so far.
